Ever since I've been cutting my calories, I haven't been able to sleep well. Since last week I've been eating between 1200ish-1600ish cals/day so I can lose some holiday weight I put on. Before cuting back my calories, I ate a lot more... and a lot of sugar too.... like sugar binges. But ever since last week when I decided to cut processed sugar out of my diet and eat fewer calories, I fall asleep quickly but then I always wake up early and only get 3-5 hours of sleep. I've heard that people on low/no carb diets have a hard time sleeping but I'm eatting everything (except meat b/c I'm a vegetarian) but I've just reduced my calories. I eat really healthy actually, lots of Indian vegetarian food.

I want to sleep more so I'm not tired during the day but I don't know if it's related to my recent dietary changes or something else? Should I eat more...? Advice please! It's 4am and I should be sleeping.

Im not an expert or anything but maybe for the next week try putting back in the sugar you havent been having and see how you get on? If you find that you are sleeping better then you need to find a way to eat the sugar without eating too much! If you still haqve the problems maybe you could go to your doctor?
Studies have shown that spicy food can disturb your sleep. A lot of Indian food is rather spicy, may that could be the reason why you cant sleep.

Take melatonin and ZMA before bed - the melatonin 20 minutes before and the ZMA about an hour before.  If that doesn't do the trick (which it almost certainly will) try chewing on valerian root.

Sugar won't affect your sleep but hunger might.  If you're particularly overweight don't cut your calories back beyond 1800 for a week and see if that helps.  Also, make sure your 1800 cals is made up with filling, nutritious and unprocessed foods.... Fruit, vegetables, wholegrains.  Swap white rice for brown rice, for example.

Also plan a light but filling snack for about 2 hours before you go to sleep.  Some wholemeal toast.  A yoghurt.   Hummus with some vegetable sticks.  A hot drink.  If you go to sleep with a reasonably happy tummy the chances are you'll sleep through.

And of course not everything is diet-related!  Check that your bedroom is quiet and properly darkened because light and sound disturb sleep.  Don't do strenous exercise or watch TV right before you go to bed.   And if the dusturbed sleep pattern continues, do see your doctor.

That sort of like the problem that I'm having. Since it's the summer, I'm usually at home doing nothing, and eating not much either. I'm not sure if this is suppose to help my weight loss or not. Anyway, I recently turned vegetarian (after a shocking video on YouTube, called "Meet your Meat") and I haven't been able to fall asleep. I think it's the foods I eat that are causing me to sleep at 2-4AM or not at all.

If you want to help with your weight loss problem and your sleeping problem, I suggest exercising, which makes you more tired, so you can sleep better and burn more calories on top of that.
