Is my body just where it's supposed to be?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi All!

First time posting, so pardon me if this topic comes up often. I am a bit frustrated with the way my body reacts or as I should say, lack of reacting to the healthy changes I've made.

I'm 5'2'' and 122 lbs. I'm not overweight, but do have extra weight that I'd like to get rid of. I eat pretty healthy (some days I have bad days, but who doesn't!), I do drink on the weekends (light beer & sometimes mixed drinks), and I've been exercising on and off for about 5 years & since January work out (cardio, weights, and sit ups) 4 times a week. I even had a trainer for awhile & saw no results. I've been at 122 lbs. for quite some time & am afraid this is just where my body is comfortable & will stay at.

Does this happen to anyone else? Anyone have any advice? It's so extremely frustrating!

a) 122 is a perfectly good weight for a 5'2" woman.

b) Drinks have a TON of calories in them :(

c) You look great in your photo

d) Work a little more on the weight training to firm up what you don't like

e) I think you might be just where your supposed to be :D

I've been feeling the same way lately. I'm 5'5" 130 lbs and have a small frame. I desperately want to lose 10 more lbs but my body seems to be holding onto it. Every time I get into the 120s I think I'll stay there but I always pop back up to 130!

That being said, I do believe that it's possible to reach your goal. It's just going to take a little extra work and a little more discipline. That's what I'm trying! Oh, and I've started adding more strength training to my week and I'm beginning to firm up a bit more.

Good luck in your journey! You can do it! (By the way, you do look great!)

I am 5'2" and between 123- 125. I am the same as you, I work out about 5 times a week, I eat healthy, I do drink on the weekends, but I don't go over my calorie limits, but I can't lose any more weight.

Last summer I got to 119 but I couldn't maintain it and live a normal lifestyle....maybe this is a comfortable weight for us? I think that we need to decide what is more important...a few vanity pounds or the ability to socialize and enjoy life while maintaining a healthy weight.

I have been focusing a lot more on lifting weights to tone my stomach and other trouble areas hoping that will make me feel better about myself!

I don't know what size you are, but I am a size 4 and a small, sometimes extra small. When I think about that it is like "How tiny do I really want to get?"

We are tiny now!!!

Thanks everyone, this is a great website for all of us! Thanks for the compliments & I agree they are "vanity pounds", but I would just like to get down to 117 if 110 just isn't working.

I really do appreciate the kind words & you're right Nicole I do want a normal, maintainable lifestyle not something where I feel deprived all the time.

Thank you, thank you & remember everyday is another chance to make something beautiful happen.

I could only wish I was as light as all of you above, but I do think I have some insight on the process.  I have been with CC for about 2 1/2 months and in that time I have learned a lot from chats and weighing myself EVERYDAY, yes every day at the same time (first thing in the morning), and charting it on the site.

I had 25 lbs to lose I am now 8 less!  But it took 2 1/2 months!  One of the things I have learned from the site is your body is REALLY holding on to your weight especially when you don't have much to have to be VERY consistent with the program for cal's and aerobic exercise and if you do both, I guarantee you will lose of the most common problems dieter's have is patience's!  We all want instant results or at least in a few weeks, but for what I have learned and my own body did it, it will probably take a few months.  It has to do with our organs liver is one of them, it takes a lot longer to get things to change internally.

If you start weighing yourself like I said you will see a pattern eventually and it will be lowering....but it will go slow and you will look like your yo-yoing.....but hang in there.  My highest weight when I started was 151...I have never re hit it!  Than I sat at 148 for a while than it went to 146 and it never went back to 148.  So yes I am losing, but SLOW!

The way I look at it is, before CC I struggled with the same lousy 10 pds trying to lose all the time and depriving myself and than very slowly going up it took 10 years and all of a sudden it went from 10 to 25 I need to lose.  Very depressing!  But thank goodness for CC and all the chats!  I have been patience and sure enough by following the program I am now lighter than I have been in 2 years!  Also, keep your cal's balanced through out the day and you will not feel really all that helps.  I know when you don't have much to lose unfortunately you also don't get a ton of cal's.

Good luck!

Are you looking to melt the pounds off or get a little bit more toned?  You guys all look great.  I look forward to getting down to my last 5-10 vanity pounds.

I'm in the same boat! I'm between 5'5 and 5'6 and I got down to 123 last summer, but that was a bit too much (for my body, anyway). After going on the pill and relaxing a bit about what I eat, I'm back up to about 130. I would love to get back to 127 ish but am trying not to obsess about it; it seems that my body is just happiest at 130. What can you do ;)
