how long does tofu last???

I bought tofu about a week ago but threw out the wrapper... how long does it last in the fridge??

it is the extra firm stuff if that makes a difference...

In our house we eat it unless there's visible mold. Maybe that's gross. It hasn't ever made us sick, though.

Usually it's best to leave it unopened until you're going to eat it.
Once you open it, make sure you place it in an airtight container and put fresh water in unless you are using silken tofu. It will keep in the fridge for about 4 days. If you freeze it, it will keep for a month.
Personally, the day of purchasing tofu, I take it out of the package and cut into package serving sized slabs - usually 5 - then put it in a tupperware container, and freeze. When I want to have tofu in a meal, I take a slab out, microwave, and squeeze. At this point it's really easy to squeeze and has more of a meaty texture.

I love freezing tofu and prepping ahead of time because it keeps a long time and is a big time saver.
Here is Japan we are usually told to eat tofu within 3 or 4 days of buying it. As I just mentioned in another thread it is never frozen here.
My mom is korean.  She says tofu is like a baby, you always have to change its water because it's "alive".  Once the package is open you have about a week usually, depending on the tofu.

You NEVER want to eat spoiled tofu.  Check for a strange/sour flavor, mold, change in color/consistancy that means its gone bad!
Treat tofu like chicken - don't eat it spoiled and make sure you eat it soon after you open the package.
