Hi, I'm 15 and a recovering anorexic, I have been maintaining weight for about six months and eating healthily and exercising regularly. Recently I seem to be losing control of my eating in the evenings, I only eat healthy stuff but I eat endlessly. I'm fine in the day and eat never feel hungry but in the evenings I can literally eat constantly! For instance, last night I was in physical pain from the amount of carrots I was eating but I couldn't stop and was still bloated in the morning despite going only 200 calories over. During my eating disorder I was in complete control, I wouldn't even eat toothpaste! Yet now I suddenly can't seem to stop. I'm a bit worried about this, not sure what to do, If I keep go over my rda by a couple of hundred calories even if it's all healthy will I gain weight? Has anyone else experienced this?
Also, another thing, I regained my periods when I reached my target weight but lost them again almost immediatly afterwards despite maintaining, I'm wondering If I've screwed them up perminantly, I feel physically fine and full of energy but there's alot of stress with exams and family stuff so maybe that's a factor. I'm healthy on the 30th centile for my age and height. Sorry, this is very long but I felt that I might as well get everything off my chest at once.
Carrots aren't calorie-dense. Eat foods with more calories.
i do eat calorie dense foods too like peanut butter, nuts, avocado and cheese, it's just I was so scared of binging last night that I made myself stick to veggies. I'm eating 2000-2500 calories a day.
Well, no disrespect but you don't really have a problem here.
2,000 calories is not that much. If you were eating 5,000 calories and still couldn't feel full then maybe you could have an issue, but you're very far from that.
Maybe you should try upping your maintenance calories a little..If you aren't eating enough your body will try to comensate by making you want to binge....Also you could be not eating enough protein or fiber or something..if you try to increase your protein and fiber consumption then you'll feel fuller faster and longer..Technically if you ate OVER maintenance you would gain weight no matter what you are eating, but maybe this is your body's way of telling you that you have been eating under maintenance..:)
You were probably bloated because of the fiber in carrots, I know this because I am seriously addicted to carrots. I'm surprised I am not orange yet (I will kill a small 1 pound bag in a day sometimes).
If you are eating enough protein and fats then you shouldn't have this problem by the time evening hits.
ok, I'll try upping my fat amounts, i guess i just can't believe how fast my metabolism's getting, I eat six small meals a day and try to include 5-15 grams of protein in each so that shouldn't be a problem, although I am vegetarian. Once again, thanks for replying :)
o yes it is fast because your body is repairing the damage from ED :)
but dont cut back because it could trigger a relapse
Good to hear!! :) And yeah of course your metabolisms getting fast!! You are young and your body neeeds EXTRA food than normal because it is probably still trying to repair ED damage!! Plus you should have a "high metabolism" most people have much higher metabolisms than they think, they just don't eat enough so they supress them! haha thats my theory anyway because everyone always tells me I have such a freakishly fast metabolism, and yeah it might be somewhat fast, but I just think they're lagging a little behind...:p hehe
