Hello to everyone on the Health and Support forums! I used to post here a lot during my ED recovery, but now I've had some other questions.
Okay, to start off with, I'm a 6 ft, 23 year old male who had to recover from anorexia/bulimia, and that started with me being below 130 lbs back in February.
Now, I'm weight restored (177lbs) and feeling A LOT better. I've resumed exercise in order to build my metabolism even further; I started back running/lifting in the beginning of May. I have been running an hour, lifting a half hour, and walking 4 miles a day 6 days a week. I had to cut it back because I was getting burnt out again and it was feeling obsessive, and that started last week and recently have been doing more every other day of the week.
Okay, I've noticed that on days I exercise I don't get hungry at all until about midday. However, on days I don't exercise, it seems like I'm not satisfied at all. The last two days I've taken off (Saturday and Today), I've binged majorly, and it's making me depressed. I binged like that in the beginning of my recovery, but it went away as I progressed. I usually eat a VERY healthy diet, consisting mostly of fruits and vegetables. Today I listened to my body and had anything and everything I wanted because I wanted to feel satisfied, and it worked. Not painfully stuffed, just satisfied to the extent where I didn't want food anymore, 5000 calories later (very ashamed of that).
Has my metabolism returned or am I just developing overeating disorder? I try to eat regular meals with my mom and brother, and they seem to be just fine with their plate of food; they have theirs and they're done. Me on the other hand, go back for seconds almost every time. However, I am the only one in the household who exercises regularly.
Any help would be appreciated!
How much do your mom and brother exercise? Because you appear to be doing a whole, whole lot. Also, if you're not hungry on days when you workout, it's likely your body is compensating on your off days so don't fight it. I know when I exercise I'm often not hungry soon after (particularly now that it's so hot out).
I'm not sure if you've seen it before, but the TEE is supposed to be rather accurate as far as calorie needs calculators go. I have no idea how much you sleep/stand but just based on the exercise you listed above, I have it coming out that you need around 3500/day. I guess it could be more depending on your other habits and body composition, and I'm sure it's an estimate just like anything else. However, that means you do need to be eating lots... lots and lots and lots. So don't worry, even 5000 doesn't seem too excessive all things considered. Your body likely needs it.
Thank you very much Cupcake! They don't exercise at all, which is probably why they don't eat as much as I do. I also try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night and I'm very active outside, I can hardly sit. I just don't want it to escalate to obsessive levels like it did before..

Yeah, you're right to be worried. That does sound excessive and pretty damn close to obsessive. Really watch yourself, make sure you're not relapsing.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I don't want to relapse either and I just wanted to exercise on my terms instead of having it be a chore, which is also why I cut back. Thank you for your reply, as always.
