Toast or just bread?

Is there a difference at all?  Toast is just bread exposed to heat for a few minutes.
i always log them as the same personally

So toasting the bread won't reduce any of the calories right?

except maybe some crumbs that fall off in the toaster, stays the same # of calories.

haha toasting actually tends to make the bread a tiny bit lighter but you probably won't save anymore than 3 calories. lol
A lot of people used to believe toast was healthier and sadly, some people still do. 

Ahhh .... the secret is out! (shhhhh)

During the toasting process, the magic toaster fairy comes and sprinkles "magic toast dust" on toasting bread, surreptitiously whisking away 1/1000th of a calorie in the form of burnt toast crumbs. Voila! The toasted bread is lower calorie (not to mention (a) warmer; and (b) crispier) than its normal, untoasted bread counterpart.

Actually, for those people who are really carb-conscious, there is some evidence that the toasting process alters the carbohydrate structure of the bread, causing a miniscule alteration on the glycemic index. Is it significant? Nopers. Personally, I like the magic toast fairy theory much better.

Uh....    The Toast real guys...

The process of cooking breaks chemical bonds. If you keep cooking bread, it will eventually turn to ash. This has very few, if any, calories. Energy is released from breaking bonds. We measure this in calories. If toasting has already broken some bonds before you eat it, then shouldn't there be theoretically fewer bonds to break during digestion than if you ate untoasted bread? The more you toast bread, the fewer calories?

We need a nutritionist/chemist on this one!

Actually, what I think the toasting does is evaporate some of the moisture from the surface of the bread.  But even if cals were reduced, would it be enough calories to actually make any difference when you're talking about logging cals for weight loss?

Even if the difference was as much as 10% of the untoasted bread (assuming an 80 cal slice of bread), that's only 8 cals!  Does a person really need to worry about 8 cals?  (You can burn that off just by walking to the car...)

Toast and bread are both very very evil foods, i cant by bread or i eat it.

A whole loaf toasted with peanut butter and nuttella. oh yum.

It is an opinion of mine that bread is healthier than toast because (a) toasting destroys some nutrients contained in bread (i believe); (b) toasting causes some of the water held in the bread to evaporate making it easier for your body to digest (water in the bread makes it harder to digest); (c) anything you put on bread gets absorbed by it and the water in the bread clings to the water in the topping when your stomach begins to digest them and causes both to be protected (a little) from the strong acids in your stomach (my high school teacher told me that water is sticky). It's basic science people, I'm sorry, I'm by no means an expert but that's what I believe is the truth, and I accept that.
