How does spaghetti squash taste??????

Hi, l have been trying to broaden my horizon in terms of healthy eating and there is only so much low carb you can eat in terms of dinners if you are a picky eater, but l am willing to try. So anyone who has eaten spaghetti squash, did you like and if not why not. Can you describe the taste? and what is a good recipe for it. Thanks.

I really like it! - I really just reflects the taste of the sauce, etc - I think it's a great substitute for Pasta

Hmm, I think it's delicious. It actually has much more flavour than typical pasta noodles. It tastes very similar to acorn squash, that is, almost sweet in flavour. It also has a bit of a nutty taste. Its scrumptious, even with regular spaghetti sauces (marinara, primavera, whatever) piled on top! All you have to do is preheat your oven to 375/400, cut the squash in half, scoop out the seeds and roast it on a foiled lined pan (easy cleanup) flesh side down for 45 mins- 1hr. If it carmelizes, it's just even better! You scoop out the flesh when it's cooked an it falls apart into strings of noodles. Let it sit for a minute though, and pat it dry or it will dilute whatever sauce you use. Be adventurous- try it out!

I don't really think it tastes like spaghetti, but it does taste great with marinara sauce. It's very filling too!

Try acorn squash and butternut squash too! they are very versatile veggies and good with a little bit of butter, or cubed, baked and blended into a soup... or shredded and made into "potato pancakes" but way lower calorie! Yay Squash!

In my opinion, it doesn't taste or feel like pasta at all.  It tastes like delicious winter squash, a little sweet but lighter than butternut or acorn squash, with a nice, slight crunch to the strands.

I don't like the combination of tomato and squash and prefer to season mine with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, or with more traditional squash seasonings of nutmeg and a trace of cinnamon.

Depends on how you doctor it up.  It's interesting to say the least.  I'm not a big fan of squash, but this was okay, once I learned how to make it into spaghetti and not shreds of pulp.

Personally, when I tried it, I really didn't like it. It tasted quite bad, in my own opinion.

=P Also the fact that my tongue and face swelled up like a balloon didn't help, either.

awwwwwwwwwwwwww so sorry to hear about ur allergic reaction.

First off, and this is true with any "replacement" food, get it out of your head that this should taste like spaghetti.  You will be sorely disappointed if you go at it like that.  It is squash.  It is a delicious squash with a slight nutty taste and semi-sweet in nature.


When I make this I don't treat is like spaghetti.  It's not spaghetti.  I use it as a side with other things.  It's great with cinnamon, Parmesan cheese, garlic.  It really is great, but it's not spaghetti.  It just looks like it.Laughing


It's really easy to make.  The one I bought had a sticker on it that said how long to microwave it for, and that was it.  I put some spaghetti sauce on it.  It looks like thin spaghetti, but it tastes more like squash and it was crunchier than noodles.

It was pretty good.  Definately not the exact same as pasta, but I thought I would be ok with substituting it most of the time.

I fed myself, by toddler, and my husband with one squash.

It has always been my favorite, even when i was a kid.  My daughter has no idea it is squash when I feed it to her once a week.  We eat it with a can of tomatoes, one onion, 1 lb 93% lean ground turkey and some Clasico.  I just microwave the squash, to meeit turns out exactly the same as if you Bake it.  to microwave it just put some fork holes in it and put the whole squash in the microwave.  it works perfectly every time (caution when you cut open the squash it is CRAZY hot)
