Does any body know what the RDA of sugar is? I'm trying to limit my sugar in take but I have no idea what to linit it to.

There is no recommended daily allowance (RDA) for sugar. In fact, some experts believe we need no sugar at all. On the other hand, weight loss surveys have shown that diets containing very small amounts of sugar are less easy to stick to.

Official US Guidelines advise a maximum of 40g refined sugar for every 2000 calories consumed. This equates to 8 percent of calories.

Note: Refined sugar is not only table sugar - it includes the sugars in a wide range of processed foods (e.g. breakfast cereal). So remember to read food labels and choose lower-sugar brands.

I think the 40 g recommendation is strictly for refined sugar (that would include white sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, cane juice, etc.).

Personally, 40 g seems like a hard amount to conceptualize... but 40 g = 1.41 ounces.

Bear in mind that US dietary guidelines are written by government agencies that are heavily lobbied by the industries they 'oversee'.

I think most nutritionists agree that fruit is important to a balanced diet, but be careful of fruit juices because the sugar in them adds up more quickly.

1200 calories, 10% = 120 calories = 30.0 g of sugar
1300 calories, 10% = 130 calories = 32.5 g of sugar
1400 calories, 10% = 140 calories = 35.0 g of sugar
1500 calories, 10% = 150 calories = 37.5 g of sugar
1600 calories, 10% = 160 calories = 40.0 g of sugar
1700 calories, 10% = 170 calories = 42.5 g of sugar
1800 calories, 10% = 180 calories = 45.0 g of sugar

Thank you =) I was worrying that I was eating way too much sugar as I was including the sugar from fruit in my total. And that information about sugar and illnesses is really intresting
