what to eat w/ salsa?

i love salsa, especially peach or mango salsa, but i am trying to not eat tortilla chips. so any suggestions on what to eat salsa with?

here's what i have been eating it with lately:


sweet potatoes (regular salsa tho)

toasted low cal wheat wrap (kinda tricks me into thinking they are chips lol)

eggs, chicken, fish...

I really like hard boiled egg whites cut in half and filled with salsa.  It's also a great topping for a baked potato.

Boiled/steamed broccoli or cauliflower dipped in salsa is heaven.

Baby carrots and salsa is another favorite of mine.

This may sound disgusting to you, but you could have a salsa sandwich. It's low-cal and tasty.

I eat salsa with anything and everything pretty much.  You can never have too much salsa!

I love it on warm veggies...something about hot and cold makes it really yummy =) I love to put it over steamed broccoli.

Oh, salsa is also my salad dressing of choice!  If I have a salad, I top it with salsa.

oohhh mexican salads....i forgot about those! i do have some black beans....

i use pretzel chips instead or tortilla chips... they 100 cals for like 10-11 but no fat or very little.


or you could use salsa on potatos, veggies, in wraps with beans, or over rice

I love salsa on salads as well!  I'll brown up some ground turkey with taco mix stuff, throw it on the salad with the salsa, so good!

mmm, salsa on cucumber slices! you could also bake them with a little salt to make them crispier which gives the illusion of being chips! Make sure you cut longer slices, then in 1/2 or 1/3 because they shrink.

I don't buy the bags of chips, but I put some of my low carb tortillas in the oven to get hard, then break them into pieces.

Try a black bean and salsa wrap they are delicious (low fat and high protein too!)

Mix a can of rinsed and drained black beans with a small jar of salsa and saute until thickened. Spread a spoonful on a low fat whole wheat tortilla and top with low fat cheese and sour cream (if you have the extra calories left). You can also top with a variety of veggies if you so choose (ie: tomatoes, lettuce, onions and Peppers...use your imagination). My family likes these better than tacos.

after reading this thread i was thinking about salsa the whole day yesterday :P  for dinner i made a baked potato with cheddar cheese and salsa and black beans. then i had spanish rice with mixed veggies too. it was DELICIOUS :)

I poach chicken, pork, fish in it. Or I made a casserole out of it -- chunk up chicken, put in brown rice, add the salsa, and then add enough water to cover everything by about an inch. Cover and bake until the chicken is done and the rice is cooked

Or I put it on my scrambled eggs in the morning.

ooh! my new favorite thing is salsa with eggs- yummy for any meal

heat up 1tsp olive oil in a pan and then add a big handful of frozen spinach

when the spinach is heated up, add 1 cup egg white substitute and scramble them

when all scrambled up, add 1 piece of cut up cheese (i like to use individually wrapped cheese to control the cals- cheddar is really yummy), also add salt, pepper, any other spices

top with lots of salsa- i usually use about 1/4-1/3 of a cup



Trader Joe's has some healthy substitutes for tortilla chips. I think we brought home a bag of flax seed chips or something, and they were pretty close to tortilla. There are also pita chips. I'm pretty sure you could find some whole grain chips.

Wild rice!

I also like in on eggs (lightly fried w/ no oil)

However the tortilla chips is my favorite thing.

i just had a chicken, cheese, and salsa whole wheat flour tortilla wrap for lunch that was pretty good..

i also like salsa on my scrambled eggs.

awesome ideas!

i made a salad. it consisted of spinach, black beans, peppers, corn and mango salsa. i also tore up half of a lavash wrap and toasted them to have little crunchy pieces on top. DELISH
