I'm a lover of rice (what do you expect? I'm a Filipina.) However, I'm trying to cut down on my rice intake for like a week now b/c it's the major contributor of my weight gain. Well, I lost 5lbs in less than a week, and when I ate 2 cups of rice yesterday, I gained a pound.
Apparently, I miss RICE on my meals. So, instead of craving for it, I'm just gonna write about it, and also ask you "What do you eat rice with?"
You realize this is due to either natural day to day water weight fluctuations, or just some water weight from eating more carbs? Its not actual fat gain. Carbs don't add to fat gain any more than any other excess calories.
That being said, I like my rice with curry (indian and japanese), I like it plain, I like it with furikake on top, I like it with mabodofu, with nori, with meat/fish and sauces...

I've been drinking the same amount of water for weeks now, still doing the same activities, didn't change anything in my lifesyle..except cutting back on rice. So after seeing the effect, I just wanna to ignore rice for a while until I get my desired weight.
Now at 141.
Goal is 115.
your body goes through daily weight fluctuations depending on how big of meal you ate, what time you ate, when you weigh yourself, how much water you drank at what time, whether you've gone to the bathroom or not, and there is also water weight/glycogen weight from carbs. Its not fat. Just trying to help you so you don't blame carbs for something they aren't, and won't freak out whenever you have some carbs and see your weight go "up."
Hell, I regularly fluctuate 2-3 kilograms night-morning, and thats 4 to 6 pounds (although I eat big)
But I don't want to turn this into another "no carbs are not bad for you" topic because theres plenty of those. I'd rather celebrate rice.
I hardly eat rice (and I'm an Asian too!), but when the rare occasion comes, I eat fried rice with egg, plain rice with gravy, plain rice with stir-fry vegetables. :D

@thisismarjorieg: I'm from Singapore. :D Fried rice is delicious... rice by itself, I am not too keen on it. :D
I don't know how I forgot about fried rice. And also, omrice (fried rice wrapped in an omelet) is pretty awesome over here in Japan too.
You're so lucky you're in Japan. If I were you, I'd forget about fried rice, and concentrate more on the sushi and sashimi there. :) And omrice is delicious...mmmm.
I love rice with all Korean soups. I can eat Indian curry without rice if I have naan.
Also love rice with a fried egg. Rice in bibimbap..
totally forgot about bibimbap. And yes I second the naan-with-curry (total nan lover), although Japanese curry pretty much requires rice I guess.
I eat rice at least five times a week. I also measure it in one cup servings.
Everything in moderation.
My family eat rice almost every single day but I tend to fill half my plate with vegetables and then add 3 or 4 tablespoons of rice on top. That way i dont miss out or feel deprived.
I HATE RICE! Well maybe hate is too strong a word, but growing up, Chicken Fried rice was a meal in itself (like 3 cups of rice, ugg!) at least once a week, and I think I more than OD'd.
However, now I find myself forcing myself to cook it once/twice a week for the sake of my husband, and it turns out, my kids don't like rice either! Whodathunk?
I unfortunately, have no skill in the cooking of the rice, so I use Minute Rice, and I can eat it if I use low sodium chicken broth instead of the water, or If I put a bunch of spray butter on it w/ salt and pepper.

I live in Japan so I eat a lot of sushi/ sushimi which is DELICIOUS and super filling for few calories. ^_^
Yeah, we have Japanese curry over here too and definitely need rice. haha
I'm craving bibimbap now... sounds like I need to eat it for lunch tomorrow. :P
I buy single-serve bags of mixed white and wild rice with vegetables from Tesco in the freezer aisle (UKer here). 160 calories for a decent serving - the veggies really bulk it out. DELICIOUS with a small can of tuna mixed in for 225 calories.
I love special fried rice.
And pilau rice.
And rice pudding.
And plain steamed rice with soy sauce.

I eat brown rice at least 4-5 times a week. I eat one cup(cooked) usually with some type of chicken and veggies.
What don't you eat with rice??
I'm on the U.S. Gulf Coast, which grows rice and has always eaten a lot of it.
I don't really like fried rice but I love plain rice, well, plain. With chili. With gumbo. In soup. Scrambled into an egg with some vegetables and cheese. With beans (all kinds of beans: Butterbeans, charro beans, borracho beans, Ranch Style Beans, black beans); with red beans and sausage; with stew. Mixed into casseroles. In rice pudding. For breakfast. With plain yogurt. In hoppin' john. As Mexican rice, cooked in broth and tomato with diced vegetables. With chicken and gravy. With beef tips and gravy. With meatballs and gravy. With fish. With okra and tomatoes. With ropa vieja. With Middle Eastern food.
I love naan but Indian food is so rich that I really prefer it "diluted" with rice, and, yeah, I don't see how you could do Chinese food without it.
