Have you ever considered "weight gain" supplements. I t sounds as though you are spending a fair amount of time in the gym and protein shakes and weight gainers are an excellent source of "good" calories. Especially following workouts. You mentioned one shake a day, perhaps it is time to have a second one.
In the dieting world it is all about calories in vs calories out. It doesn't matter if you want to loose weight or gain it the principles are the same. The difficult/tricky part is managing that magic number to make the scale move the way you want it to.
Secondly if you are really into fitness I would also suggest spending more time with the weights and less on the cardio machine. If you are working with a reputable trainer I am sure he won't lead you astray.

Okay, Thanks everyone! I just wanted to make sure my body wouldn't freak out if i had that much protein. I think i'll try to do two protein shakes a day instead of one. You just get so full sometimes it's hard to make yourself eat it! LOL But I guess that's better than being starving and trying to NOT eat. Which is what just about everyone goes through to get to their ideal weights. Thanks again!
Unless you have some sort of existing kidney problem, it's pretty difficult to take in more protein than your body can handle.
I would advise against taking shakes whenever possible. Eat real food when it's an option; there's much more nutrition in food.
jessie, you say that you're recovering from an anorexic relapse and have had problems w/exercise bulimia in the past. i would, therefore, definitely suggest laying off of the cardio. ask your doctor/therapist if he/she thinks you're ready to start a weight lifting program as exercise (they may suggest steering clear of the gym altogether).
to build body mass, you need to consume more calories than you exercise off. it's not just about having protein, it's about consuming more calories than you burn. you also said that "it's not an issue of gianing weight for me, i just burn most of it off"--it SHOULD be an issue of gaining weight for you. you can't build muscle w/o gaining weight when you have such a low body fat percentage.
your friend is right that 140g of protein would do you some good.
