I just started Insanity and I am on day 4. I have read numerous posts and reviews about it and I am starting to get discouraged. I started this program because I used to work out Muay Thai and was in great shape. But I went through a bad divorce and gained 30+ pounds.
I am 5'5 and 171 pounds. I want to lose weight and be healthy for my kids. I am following the meal plan to the tee and also quit drinking. I feel as though I am eating too much. I calculated what I am supposed to consume and working through the workouts.
Is this program for weight loss? or is it just to tone up? My goal is to be at 145 and I know it is not about the weight, it is about inches, but any advice would be helpful!!
Well, you didn't say how much you're eating or how old you are, but your BMR is likely around 1,500 which is the bare minimum you should be eating on days you don't work out. On the days that you do workout, you should eat back at least half of the calories you burn exercising.
1,200 is way too low for most women who aren't sedentary, petite and elderly. 1,400-1,500 is a much more reasonable calorie target for any woman attempting to lose weight.

Lots of variety indeed. Which is why such vague blanket terms are not as helpful as intended.
Insanity will kick your ass, it's a given that it works for fat loss.
Just need to make sure your diet is clean.
Insanity is great for weight loss and toning up. I've heard P90X is more what you want for building muscle so you should be good. You're only on day 4, don't get discouraged yet!
Definitely for weight loss. Unless you eat like 2500 calories a day while doing Insanity you're going to do a lot more than just tone. :) Especiallysince your metabolism gets boosted with such vigorous exercise, and the muscle you build helps burn fat even when you're not working out. Good luck; you'll see results soon- just wait and see! :D
My advice would be to check beachbody for the recommended calorie intake for you doing Insanity. Use CC then to ensure that you're keeping it as clean as possible and dig deep every day. Insanity is a weight loss program, notice it has no added weights to utilise just body weight and lots of cardio. Don't let other discourage you because only you can get you to where you want to be. It will take time to see results. I tried Insanity once before until I realized high endurance cardio wasn't for me. I tried a new workout with a personal trainer and a very similar meal plan, and it took almost a month until I saw results. Patience is your ally.
Another thing to keep in mind is that stress over your weight will decrease the likelihood of losing weight. If you can find a way to be content with your current weight, and also be equally content with the idea of losing weight, you'll feel less stressed and have a better chance of losing the weight.
I did Insanity too - started at 169 lbs also 5'5" - almost the exact same place as you. I did not lose much weight on the program the first 4 weeks. I ate a net 1200 calories a day. I upped my calories to net 1700 during my recovery week and and dropped 5 lbs. I stayed at the net 1700 for the rest of the program and I lost a total of 10 lbs.. Not the 20 I had hoped for, but I lost 2 sizes and a total of 21 inches, five of those off my belly. Could actually see a faint hint of my abs :) So, don't get discouraged! Stick with the program, eat clean and enough to fuel your body and try not to pay too much attention to the scale. It doesn't tell the whole story. I lost 22 pounds doing the insanity workout my advice a lot of the stuff feels and looks overwhelming watching them do it but I improvised and still lost the weight if I couldn't do something I would keep moving I couldn't jump up very good so I only went as high as I could go and I couldn't jump to the floor and back up so I would jump to the edge of my bed instead I jogged in place went I couldn't just keep moving yell at shaun t and by the end of the first 30 days u will notice u can do more bend more and jump more just don't give up on it and you may end up having to eat more cuz u start burning so much but u will do it just mix your eating up don't let it be the same thing everyday make it fun I lost fifty pounds all together but part of that was after the 60 days 22 pounds was from insanity .... sweat sweat sweat
I am 16 years old, I am 5'8 and I was about 155 pounds when I started insanity. I actually gained about 5 pounds over the course of the program, but my stamina was up and I felt a lot better. In order for Insanity to work for you, you need to stay with it. Don't pay much attention to your weight, because Insanity isn't really designed for weight loss. It is designed to get you in the best shape you could possibly be in.
