# Calories Burned at 60-75% MHR?

Calories Burned at 60-75% MHR?

Ok.  I have been searching & searching for the last hour or so and cannot for the life of me find a calculator tool or equation which will help me to determine how many calories I am burning while at my target fat-burning zone, 60-70% of my max heart rate.  I have found a gozillion sites which detail what percentage of the cals burned at different heart rates is fat, but nothing on how many actual calories I am burning.  Well, I did find one site with a calculator which determines how many cals per hour I am burning at an aerobic level, 70-80% MHR.  But I don;t want to make a false assumption that I would simply be burning 10-20% less cals at the lower rate.  Also, I have found some conflicting info on the subject of just how cals per hour are burned.  One site says I'm burning 3.5 cals per minute at aerobic level, while another one says 14 cals per minute at aerobic level.

I am really confused.  The database has a lot of items that approximate but I want to know how much I am burning personally based on my % of maximum heart rate for my ht, wt, age, regardless of the actual exercise.   I just think it would be more accurate if I could find the right equation.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Yea, but the calculator doesn't work.  Could be my browser, Firefox.

I think this takes care of it all, for anyone wanting to figure out cals burned as per their own heart bpm.  If anyone in the know finds any flaws or has any corrections on this info I'd like to know.  Thanks!

I think the only way to really get a more reliable calculation is to invest in a HRM that gives caloris burned and it also needs to do constant recording.

I think depending on the workout your calorie burn can vary quite a bit.  I know my HRM will give me different calorie burns for basically the same workout but maybe I just won't "be into it" as much one day as the next.

I'd suggest working out at 70-80% MHR - you burn more calories doing a high intensity workout.

sybil: thanks!  yea, i've actually been going at 85%!  way too much.  i prefer the high-intensity workouts too.  75% sounds perfect.  i can do it for longer and burn the calories much more efficiently.

db: i hear ya.  i have spent enough on fitness equipment.  i think this method will work just fine for me.  thanks.

Not to rain on your parade, but working out at a consistent heart rate is just about the least efficient way of burning calories.  This article explains it pretty well.

no rain at all, sully.  cardio is only a part of my workout routine.  and 30-45 mins a day at 75% is a very efficient way of burning cals.  the bpm is the gage, not the exercise itself.  the reason ppl plateau is that their bodies adapt to the specific exercise and utilize fuel more efficiently, burning less cals.  the trick is to change the routine up.  i've been lifting weights for 20+ yrs.  i know all about this.  thanks for the input.
