Recipe Ingredients for Flan, by Cooking Light

1 1/3 c sugar, divided
3/4 c egg substitute
3/4 tsp vanilla extract
24 oz. canned, evaporated nonfat milk (2 12 oz. cans)

Recipe Directions for Flan, by Cooking Light

  1. Place 1 c sugar in a large heavy skillet over medium heat; cook 5 minutes or until sugar dissolves (do not stir)

  2. Immediately pour into a 9 inch cake pan, tipping quickly until sugar coats bottom of pan, then set aside.

  3. Combine remaining 1/3 c sugar, egg substitute, vanilla and milk; stir well.

  4. Pour into prepared cake pan; place cake pan in a larger shallow pan. Add hot water to larger pan to a depth of one inch.

  5. Bake at 350 for one hour or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove cake pan and let cool one hour on a wire rack.

  6. Cover and chill 4 hours.

  7. To serve, loosen edges with a knife or rubber spatula. Place a serving plate upside-down on top of cake pan; invert flan onto plate. Drizzle any remaining syrup over flan.
