This recipe is a hybrid using ingredients from a Brazilian fish stew recipe and a French recipe.; It is an excellent full-bodied stew and very flavorful.

Recipe Ingredients for Fish stew

2 1/2 pound tilapia filet (cut in chunks)
0.63 pound shrimp (raw; peeled and deveined)
6 T. lime juice
1 T. ground cumin
1 T. minced garlic
2 cups carrots (shredded)
2 medium potatoe (peeled and cubed)
1 T salt
1 T black pepper
3 T. olive oil
1 T. butter
2 onions (chopped)
2 poblano peppers (roasted)
16 oz can diced tomatoes (with or without chilis)
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
3 T. coconut cream

Recipe Directions for Fish stew

  1. Stir together lime juice (use lemon if u do not have fresh limes); cumin; paprika; garlic; salt and pepper and Wrocestershire sauce in a bowl.

  2. Add fish and toss to coat; refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes or as long as 24 hours.

  3. Heat oil and butter in a large pot on medium high heat. Sautee the potatoe and carrots; add the onion and continue to sautee 1-2 minutes until onions are almost clear. Reduce heat to medium.

  4. Add the tomatoes; the fish; and the peppers in succeeding layers; Add the coconut cream.

  5. Cover pot at simmer for 15 minutes stirring occassionally. Continue cooking another 5-10 minutes until fish is cooked throughly.

  8. are using shrimp - put the shrimp in last (about 10 minutes before you turn off heat to avoid over cooking.
