Had to add loads of cod or pollock as it didnt recognise smoked Haddock. We buy fish pie selection from tesco witch is a mixture of smoked haddock, whitefish and salmon. I think haddock and cod are similar calories so we just went for it for a guide.

Recipe Ingredients for Fish pie

80 grams fresh salmon
240 grams cod or pollock
3/4 ounce flour, wholewheat
1/2 ounce margarine
10 fl oz milk, skimmed
2 1/2 ounce cheese, grated
1/2 medium onion, sliced
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
1 salt and pepper, season to taste
12 ounces potatoes, boiled and mashed
2 tablespoons margarine

Recipe Directions for Fish pie

  1. Cook, drain and mash the potatoes with a 1 tablespoon margarine.

  2. In a saucepan fry off the onion and garlic until soft but not coloured, add the milk and fish and poach for five minutes, drain and reserved the milk. In a small saucepan melt the margarine and add the flour and cook out for a couple of minutes, gradually add the reserved milk little by little along with the seasoning. Cook until thickened. Take the sauce of the heat and add 2 ounces of grated cheese, whisk until fully incorporated.

  3. In an ovenproof dish put the poached fish, onions and garlic, pour over the cheese sauce to cover. Put a layer the mashed potatoes on top and dot with the other tablespoon of margarine and spinkle 1/2 ounce of cheese to finish.

  4. Cook for 25 minutes at gas mark 6 and serve immediately with seasonal vegetables.
