Wonderfully tasty meatballs with a cream sauce. The allspice really makes them stand out! Make mashed potatoes to soak up the gravy.

Recipe Ingredients for Finnish meatballs

3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
1 cup cream (divided)
1 1/2 pound ground beef, lean
1 onion, minced
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground allspice
2 T butter
2 T flour
1 1/2 cup milk

Recipe Directions for Finnish meatballs

  1. Soak bread crumbs in 1/2 cup cream.

  2. Mix together the meat, onion, and bread crumbs.

  3. Beat the egg and add it to the meat mixture along with the salt and allspice. Combine well.

  4. Shape into balls. (Make them tiny, using about a teaspoonful of mixture if using as an appetizer).

  5. Make walnut-sized meatballs for a meal.

  6. Melt butter in the frying pan and put in the meatballs a few at a time.

  7. Shake the pan to roll the meatballs so they brown on all sides.

  8. After all the meatballs are browned, remove them from the pan.

  9. Brown the flour in the drippings. Mix with a fork until smooth then slowly add the second 1/2 cup of cream and all the milk, stirring well until smooth.

  10. Add water if the mixture gets too thick.

  11. Return the balls to the pan. Cover and cook about 25 minutes on low heat.
