Healthy chewy fig bars, also can substitute figs for dates.

Recipe Ingredients for fig bars

1 1/2 cups figs
1/8 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup oats
3/8 cup butter
1/8 cup walnuts

Recipe Directions for fig bars

  1. Mix figs with 1/8 cup sugar

  2. Add 3/4 cup water. Boil..cook until thick. Set aside.

  3. Combine next 5 ingredients. Mix until crumbly.

  4. Pat 1/2 mixture into greased 8 x 8" pan

  5. Spread with fruit mixture

  6. Top with remaining topping mixture

  7. Sprinkle finely chopped walnuts on top

  8. Pat gently.

  9. Bake 350 20-25 min. until lightly browned.
