Recipe Ingredients for Fennel-Steamed Mussels, Provence Style

8 ounces mussels
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic
8 ounces fennel
1 tbsp fennel seeds
2 tsp anise (2 star anise)
1 cup tomatoes

Recipe Directions for Fennel-Steamed Mussels, Provence Style

  1. Put the oil in a large pot over medium heat; a minute lated, add the garlic, fennel, fennel seeds, anise, and tomatoes. Bring to a boil, cook for about a minute, add the mussels, cover the pot and turn up the heat to high.

  2. Cook, shaking the pot occasionally, until the mussels open, 5 to 10 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the mussels and fennel to serving bowls, then strain any liquid over them and serve.
