Feeling on Top of the World

For Kt_bug91 being camera shy is a past memory.  She has lost 100 lbs and feels on top of the world.  With her new found energy she has started college and is following her dream of joining the Air Force.

She contacted us through our Share Your Story feature, and provided the following answers to our questionnaire.

1. What made you decide to lose weight this time? Did you have an "Aha!" moment?

I don't know if I really had an "Aha!" moment. I do remember my mom wanting me to have my senior pictures taken and I stated "not going to happen until I lose weight." That was in August of 2008. In January, the nagging hadn't stopped, so I decided I was going to stop feeling sorry for myself and do something about my weight. I also was considering going into the Air Force and knew I couldn't being so overweight.

2. What other "diets" (programs, products, plans, or services) had you tried in the past?

I tried the "6 Week Body Makeover", a raw vegan diet, and tried eating healthy. I don't think I stuck with any of them for more than a couple of weeks.

3. What changes did you make to your usual diet, activity, lifestyle, and attitude?

I pretty much did a 360 from my previous lifestyle. I cut out sugar, a lot of processed sugary items, fatty meats and fried foods, and started eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. I also started incorporating daily exercise. I started out by walking, but now I run 2-3 miles almost every day.

4. How did Calorie Count help you to lose weight?

Calorie Count helped me lose weight by keeping track of what I ate. It opened my eyes to how many calories I actually consumed. It was pretty shocking!

5. What was most challenging about losing weight?

The most challenging thing about losing weight for me was keeping on track when I was hanging out with my friends. I mean, what is a healthy thing to eat at a bonfire?

6. How long did it take you to see results?

I didn't take long for me to see results. Especially when it came to the way my clothes fit. It was so exciting to have to wear a belt! The first week I lost 5 lbs.

7. When did you realize that you were a success?

I felt successful when I got under 200 lbs. Being under 200 lbs was the best feeling in the world. I also had a pair of size 7 jeans that were my goal. I wore them yesterday!

8. How do you prevent relapse?

I prevent relapse by treating myself, but mostly not with food. I eat one piece of Hershey's Bliss Dark Chocolate a day.  I also like to treat myself with new clothes.

9. How has your life changed now that you've lost weight?

I'm so much more self confident! I put myself out there and feel like I can conquer the world. I'm so excited to start college and meet new people. I'm also now able to go into the Air Force as a nurse and serve my country.

10. What five tips do you have for other dieters?

  • Don't wait, start your weight loss journey now.
  • Find healthy ways to make the food you love.
  • Get support from your friends and family, this is crucial!
  • Have a goal and don't stop until you reach it, no matter how long
    it takes.
  • Love yourself no matter how much you weigh.

Holy!  Look at you! You're gorgeous!  Reading this today really made my day.  I just went through 3 weeks of the 6 week body makeover....religiously following the diet and big surprise it didn't do a thing for me.  I didn't loose a pound and felt lousy.  After going back to my normal calorie counting I've lost 3 pounds in the past 6 days.  I so badly want to see that number under 200.  What an encouragement you are.  I haven't seen a size 7 since high school and I think then it was only once.  Did you have any problems with loose skin or anything after loosing so much?  I'd kill for arms like yours ;)  In any case, blessings to you in all that you do, you're an inspiration.

Feel proud.  I loved that you decided to take control.  (Lucky for you that you didn't decide to get back at your Mom for being a nag.  She really does have your best interest at heart.)

You look great!  I am new to this site - A iddle-aged grandma who needs to lose about 40 pounds that snuck up on my in the last 3 years...I have tried about everything and even counting calories and exercising about 4 x's per week on a tread mill and no pound off - just inches.  Then I realized I had a thyroid issue.  Got that under control and will be out here with my story soon.  Congrats on the Air Force - my dad was in that branch of the service and very proud to be.  Kuods to you and keep livin' grand!

My weighloss goal is also 100lbs, im 36 down so far and this has given me renewed inspiration! I would love to know what sort of exercise you did over time... I started walking... slowly and painfully im now walking very quickly and jogging occasionally... cant wait to be able to run. Would love to know what you did.
The tip about making foods you love the healthy way is a fab point... i just did this with wholemeal pizza! :)

Thank you everyone for the amazing comments. I feels great to know that my story may help someone overcome their struggle with weight. To answer a few questions, I DO have a problem with saggy skin. I have MANY stretch marks, but I'v become so much more confident in myself that I don't even think about them anymore. As for my exercise routein, when I first started I walked 2-3 miles almost every day at a 3% incline. After about a month I then started jogging for about 2 min then walking for 5 and jogging 2, and so on. It was a few months before I could run a mile. But my philosophy was to run as long as I could, walk for a few minutes and then run as far as I could again. I hope this helps everyone. Just remember to stick with it. You might not be able to run 2 min now, but you WILL. I actually just going for a run right now. Good luck everyone!

That is so great!  I want to lose 100lbs. as well.  So far I have lost 75 lbs.  I have about 25lbs let to go.  I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Wow, you look amazing! I have to lose 100 lbs too and haven't been doing very well on CC recently, cheating a lot, going over my goal calorie intake etc. Your story is very inspiring though. What do you do when you're bored and all you can think of is food? This is my biggest challenge.

Chew gum!!!! That is one of my biggest secrets. I seriously don't know what I would do without Stride! I ran out today and thought I was going to go crazy! LOL Also try drinking water

so wonderful that you did it now, while you are young. now you can do anything including your dream of entering the service. I bet  you feel amazing.  I am on the road to hopefully losing 100 lbs. I have lost 70 so far, I am at 210. maintained for a year,( althought was trying to lose) but am still working at it. I also exercise everyday. I have to walk,( can't run due to back problems) but also love to swim and do pilates. I feel so much better now. so I know at 100 lbs lost you must  feel over the moon. you should feel very proud as I know how hard it was. changing habits over time is the only way to go though. now you take with you all those good changes and will maintain for life. so amazing...

This is so inspiring! I need to lose 82 lbs! And I intend to do it through lifestyle change too. I really want to be healthy and super fit more than thin! SO I can relate to your story. Wish you and everyone here on CC the best!!

You look great ! I am in the process of bringing out the thinner me. It's been long and hard but I am seeing results now that I got rid of those dang diet pills that were making my wallet thinner not my body. Thank you for the words of inspiration and the photo of results I'm gonna get there.

Your last suggestion is the one I love best- love yourself no matter what you weigh. If we truly love ourselves we will want to be the healthiest we can and take care of the body we  were given.

I am re-energized after reading your success article. After loosing 8 of the 60lbs I need to loose, I just got lazy. I have not gained back the 8 lbs but have not lost any in two months. After reading your story, I am restarting my C C today. Best wishes.

Congratulations on your success! Never in my life have I ever worn a size 7. I may not but someday I do hope to get to be at least a single digit size.  Ive lost 126 lbs but have gained and lost the same 10-12 lbs for the last two years. This also conicides w/ me moving almost 2 years ago to CA from TX. I recently quit smoking about 4 months ago so that I could learn to run, Like Starlas revenge said im jogging as long as i can go 1-4 min. at atime, walking  a few mintues and then jogging again. I hope to one day jog long distances and lose my last 30 lbs. and get the last 15 lbs of loose skin chopped off! ah... my dream come true.  If I can learn to run I can finally keep off these 10 lbs that wont stay off.

Well Hello Everyone,

This is my first day on the site, I am in awe of your accomplishment, and I hope that I can keep up my enthusiasm and be as productive as you have been. I am at an all time high at 230 lbs., and I want to be at 140 lbs. I have started out great, working out and eating right, but my biggest problem time is night time, that has always been my issue. Wanting to snack at night, too close to bedtime. What is/was your problem time in the day and how did/do you fight it?
