How many fat grams I should have on 1500 to 1800 calories?

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends a fat intake of 20 - 35% of total calories (average 30%), but some healthy diets, like the Mediterranean Diet, promote 40% of calories from fat.  At 1500 calories, aim for 33 – 66 grams of fat a day, and at 1800 calories, aim for 40 – 80 grams.  It is more important to limit your saturated fat intake to 10% of total calories, which is 16 grams at 1500 calories and 20 grams at 1800.  Saturated fat is solid at room temperature and is mostly found in fatty meat and full-fat dairy products.  Your intake of trans fat, found in shortening, should be close to zero.
