2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup shortening
2/3 cup buttermilk

Recipe Directions for FAMOUS WHITE LILY LIGHT BISCUITS

  1. Heat oven to 500.

  2. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until lumps are the size of peas.

  4. Blend in just enough milk with a fork until dough leaves sides of bowl.

  5. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface.

  6. Knead gently 2 to 3 times.

  7. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick.

  8. Cut using floured 2-inch biscuit cutter.

  9. Place on baking sheet; 1 inch apart for crisp sides, or almost touching for soft sides.

  10. Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
