A variation on Joy of Cooking's version. Added wheat germ & quick oats to boost fibre.

Recipe Ingredients for E's Apple Crisp

8 gala apples
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup quick oats
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Recipe Directions for E's Apple Crisp

  1. Peel, core and cut apples into 1 inch pieces. Layer apples in an ungreased 9x13 pan.

  2. Preheat oven to 375F. In a food processor (or in a bowl with a pastry cutter) mix together oats, wheat germ, sugars and spices.

  3. Cut butter into small pieces, distribute in food processor and pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Spread butter & oat mixture evenly over apples.

  5. Bake at 375F for 50-55 minutes, or until mixture is bubbly, apples are tender and top is lightly browned.
