Tart flavor of Granny Smith apples is a great complement to sweet cider vinaigrette and pungent cheese

Recipe Ingredients for English Farmhouse Salad

1 Granny Smith apple, cored and thinly sliced
1 tbsp vegetable oil
5 oz salad greens
1/2 c cheese, shredded parmesan
1 1/2 tbsp Splenda
1/4 tsp dry mustard
5 tbsp white vinegar
3 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
3 tbsp canola oil

Recipe Directions for English Farmhouse Salad

  1. Whisk together Splenda, dry mustard, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce until Spleda is dissolved.

  2. Slowly add oil in a stream, whisking to emulsify. Season with salt and pepper to taste. (Makes about 1/2 cup)

  3. Preheat a clean grill or grill pan to medium low.

  4. In medium bowl, toss apple slices with oil until well coated.

  5. Place the apple slices in a grilling basket and grill until just softened, about 2 minutes per side. Set aside to cool.

  6. In a large salad bowl, toss spring mix and cheese.

  7. Add vinaigrette to taste and gently toss.

  8. Top with grilled apple slices and serve immediately.
