Warning: addictive. But awfully good in Caesar salad. The serving size is based on enough croutons for 4 salads which are each large enough to serve 4.

Recipe Ingredients for Ellen's Croutons

8 slices bread, white sandwich
1/4 c. olive oil
1/8 c. garlic salt
1/8 c. oregano

Recipe Directions for Ellen's Croutons

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400

  2. Place slices of bread directly on oven rack, to slightly toast them (about 5 minutes). When done, remove from oven and let cool. When cool, cut into bite (crouton) size pieces and place in a plastic bag (I recycle grocery bags for this).

  3. Drizzle the olive oil over the bread pieces to evenly spread it about as best you can.

  4. Sprinkle the bread and olive oil with the garlic salt and oregano

  5. Shake the bag VERY WELL (for maybe 3-5 minutes) to coat each bit of bread with the oil, salt, and seasonings.

  6. Place the bread pieces on a cookie pan, making a single layer.

  7. Bake at 400F for 12-14 minutes, until slightly brown.

  8. Let cool.

  9. These croutons can be stored for up to two weeks in a glass jar with a lid.
