Ellen's Bbq Chicken Recipe

A speedy and sure-fire way to get perfect BBQ chicken every time. Your taste for sweet and sour may differ from mine, so feel free to adjust the sugar and vinegar.

Recipe Ingredients for Ellen's BBQ Chicken

2 c. ketchup
1/2 c. canola oil
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. white vinegar
24 oz. chicken, breast, with skin

Recipe Directions for Ellen's BBQ Chicken

  1. Heat oven to 350F.

  2. Spray a 9x12 glass baking dish with light oil, then place the chicken pieces, skin side up, in the dish.

  3. Bake chicken for 30 minutes, then turn the pieces over and cook for another 10 minutes.

  4. After chicken has cook for 40 minutes, remove from heat and let cool to near room temperature.

  5. While the chicken is cooling, combine the ketchup, canoa oil, sugar, and vinegar and mix VERY well. Then pour it over the baked chicken and cover with tin foil. Let sit in refrigerator overnight.

  6. On day of BBQ, heat grill in plenty of time before it's time to cook.

  7. Remove chicken from refrigerator transfer the chicken to a platter. Pour the sauce into a bowl and let both the chicken and sauce sit for about 30 minutes.

  8. Just before all items are ready to serve, place chicken pieces on the grill and baste with the sauce. Cook for 3 minutes on one side, the flip and cook for 3 minutes on the other side, basting until the sauce is used in full and cook until the sauce begins to get crunchy on the edges. Set chicken on serving plate and dig in.
