i just didnt have sunflower seeds for this bread so i made it without. and i substituted whole wheat flower with rye flower (u can guess, cause i didnt have whole wheat flower :)) soooo yummy

Recipe Ingredients for elishas sunflower seed bread without sunflower seeds

2 cups water
2 3/4 cups flour
1/2 ounce active dry yeast
2 cups rye flour
1 cup quick oats
1/3 cup instant dry milk powder
1/4 cup smart balance
1/4 cup honey
2 tsp salt

Recipe Directions for elishas sunflower seed bread without sunflower seeds

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the water, 2 cups all-purpose or bread flour, and yeast. Beat on low speed for 3 minutes. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. (Mixture will be spongy.)

  2. Stir in rye flour, oats, milk powder, smart balance, honey and salt; mix well..

  3. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Shape into a ball. Place in a grease bowl; turn once. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.

  4. Punch down and divide in half. Cover and let rest 10 minutes. Shape into two loaves; place in two greased 8-in. x 4-in. x 2-in. loaf pan.

  5. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes. Cover with foil; bake 15 minutes longer. Remove from pans and cool on wire racks.
