First heard about this old British favorite when watching the screen adaptation of "V for Vendetta." We looked it up on Wikipedia and a new breakfast love was found! Easy and delicious, but probably horrible for your arteries ...

Recipe Ingredients for Eggs in a Basket

2 slices wheat toast
1 tablespoon salted butter
2 eggs
1 salt

Recipe Directions for Eggs in a Basket

  1. Toast the bread lightly (so it is crisp enough to cut a hole in the bread)

  2. Melt the butter in a medium skillet until surface is evenly coated.

  3. Cut a hole in the center of each slice.

  4. Place the bread (slices and holes) in the pan and fry bread in melted butter until slightly more toasted.

  5. Break each egg into the hole of each slice of toast.

  6. Let cook over medium heat for approximately 2 - 3 minutes, disturbing every so often so it doesn't burn on the bottom.

  7. When the bottom is fully cooked (white), flip the slices over. Cook another 2 - 3 minutes or until desired degree of yolk firmness.

  8. Serve and eat!
