A lower calorie version of one of my favorite Japanese egg dishes. The multiple layers are really pretty, if you are like me and enjoy making your food as pretty as it is yummy. It's very filling and low calorie. It also tastes great at room temp.

Recipe Ingredients for Easy Tamagoyaki

1 egg large
3 egg whites large
1 tsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp splenda
2 tbs water

Recipe Directions for Easy Tamagoyaki

  1. Mix all the ingredients together well with a fork or chopsticks. Heat up a small (6 inch or 15cm) non-stick frying pan and spread thinly with oil (or use a non-stick cooking spray).

  2. From this point on, it only takes about a minute and a half!

  3. Once the pan is hot (if you put a droplet of water in, it dances and evaporates immediately), pour in the egg.

  4. Stir gently with a fork or chopsticks until it?s half-set.

  5. Fold in half with a spatula.

  6. Tidy up the other side a bit with the spatula.

  7. Fold the one third of the egg over with the spatula. Press down.

  8. Fold the other end of the egg over with the spatula. Press the whole thing down.

  9. Flip over, and press again. Remove from the heat before it browns too much. (If you use light colored soy sauce, it won?t get as brown.)

  10. Place the roll on a paper towel and then roll up tightly. Place something heavy on top (I use a pot) and leave until cool.

  11. Cut into 18 equal pieces. Each serving is 6 pieces.
