Recipe Ingredients for Easy Granola BARS

3 cups Oats, Regular And Quick And Instant, Unenriched
2 tablespoons butter
14 ounces Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/2 cup toasted sweetened coconut
1/2 cup blanched almonds
1/2 cup pecans
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries
108 g Sunflower Seeds
108 g Pumpkin Seeds
2 tablespoons flax seed
2 tablespoons wheat germ
2 tablespoons wheat bran

Recipe Directions for Easy Granola BARS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Line an 11 x 17 pan with a silicon mat or parchment paper. [A 10 x 15 pan would be more appropriate for the mixture as it didn't completely cover the pan. Still, our silicon mat is 11 x 17.]

  3. Melt the butter in a Pyrex container in the microwave.

  4. Open the can of sweetened condensed milk. Place the opened can in a bowl of hot water. Pour the butter on top of the milk. [This will help the milk come out of the can more easily and will also mix more easily with the dry ingredients.]

  5. Place all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix.

  6. Pour the milk and butter into the dry ingredients. Stir for about 4 minutes to ensure all the dry ingredients are dampened.

  7. Turn the mixture onto the cookie sheet.

  8. Use parchment paper to press the mix to the edges and corners of the cookie sheet. [The ingredients above were not enough to cover the sheet. I was afraid to make the bars too thin. The mix was about 1-1/2" short of the edge of the sheet.]

  9. Bake for 26 minutes. [The edges of the bottom got brown. Nothing else got brown. The directions said to bake it longer to make the bars more crunchy.]

  10. When removing the sheet from the oven, immediately cut the bars with a pizza wheel. Cover the bars with parchment paper. cover the parchment with foil. Quickly turn the tray over and release the bars.

  11. Allow them all to cool. The bars will break apart where they were scored with the pizza wheel.

  12. My yield was 24 bars: three rows of 8 bars.
