My personal recipe I threw together one day. :o) I use low sodium organic vegetable stock, which helps to bring down the amount of sodium, and still keeps it tasty!

Recipe Ingredients for Dhal

3 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp mustard seeds
3 tbsp turmeric
3 tbsp cumin, ground
1 tbsp salt
1 (medium) onion
6 cups yellow split peas
2880 ml vegetable broth
2 cups water

Recipe Directions for Dhal

  1. Sautee onion in large, thick-bottomed stock pot with olive oil and spices.

  2. Add yellow split peas, the vegetable broth and water to stock pot and cook until peas are soft. (about 2 hours)

  3. Serve hot with rice or roti (Indian flat bread). I also like to eat this as a dip with quesadillas.
