Recipe Ingredients for Dessert: French Apple Pie

1 Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust
3 large granny smith apples
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 dash of salt

For the topping:
1/2 c. whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. quick cooking oats
1 pinch of salt
1 stick butter, melted

Recipe Directions for Dessert: French Apple Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.

  2. Remove crust from refrigerator and let soften to room temperature. In the meantime, peel and thinly slice apples. Mix remaining dry ingredients. Pour over apples, mix briefly, and let stand for a few minutes.

  3. Unroll crust and arrange in deep dish pie plate. Mix apples until most apple slices have a thin coating of the sugar mixture. Arrange apples in plate.

  4. Make the topping:

  5. Mix first four topping ingredients together until well-combined. Stir in melted butter until evenly mixed. Place on top of pie.

  6. Bake pie at 400F for 50 minutes. Cover top loosely with foil after 25 minutes to prevent burning.
