You can eat Rajma (Cooked Kidney Beans) with boiled Rice or Roti (Indian bread). Feel free to vary the proportions of Tomato and Yoghurt, as per your preference.

Recipe Ingredients for Dee's Homemade Rajma Curry

100 grams Beans, Kidney, Red, Mature Seeds
2 large Onions
1 Medium Tomatoes
1 tbsp Sunflower, Linoleic, (Hydrogenated) Oil
2 oz Yoghurt

Recipe Directions for Dee's Homemade Rajma Curry

  1. Soak 100 grams of Kidney Beans (Rajma) at least 1 - 2 hours before you cook (more hours if you have time on you!)

  2. Pressure cook the soaked Rajma on a very low flame. This might take a little longer (almost 25 - 35 minutes) but will give you very nicely boiled Rajma.

  3. Now take a thick plated (or non stick) wok (kadai) and add a spoonful of oil (cut down oil as much as you can!).

  4. Add a pinchful of asafoetida, a spoonful of ginger-garlic paste and finely chopped onions to the wok. Stir it till the onions turn golden brown.

  5. Once the onions are cooked, add red chilli powder (2 - 3 tea spoons), 1 tsp. turmeric powder, 1 tsp. coriander - cumin seed powder, garam masala (if you have it), and salt as per your preference.

  6. Stir the spices and the cooked onion as quickly as you can (in case, you're using a regular wok, chances are plenty that in absence of adequate oil, the powdered spices will burn up!)

  7. In seconds, add pureed tomato to the spices and onions in the wok. Stir it well. (The tomato puree will help your powdered spices blend well with the onion gravy and will also save them from sticking to the pan)

  8. Now let the gravy cook for 2 - 3 minutes. Keep stirring in between. (feel free to add, 25 - 40 ml of water, if the need arises!)

  9. Once the onion, tomato, and spices seem to have blended well, add yoghurt to it and stir it well.

  10. Cook the gravy for another 2 minutes.

  11. Finally add the soaked and boiled Rajma (kidney beans) to the gravy, add a glassful of water and let it cook for 3 - 5 minutes. Keep stirring in between.
