Recipe Ingredients for Deep Dish Russian Pie (minus crust)

3 tbsp butter
1 head cabbage, diced
1 onion, diced
3 tsp marjoram
3 tsp tarragon
3 tsp basil
3 hard boiled eggs
1 tsp dill
4 oz. cream cheese
6 oz mushrooms

Recipe Directions for Deep Dish Russian Pie (minus crust)

  1. Place 2/3 pie crust in a deep 9" casserole dish. spread cream cheese across bottom of pie crust. Slice hard boiled eggs. Lay egg slices ontop of cream cheese and sprinkle with dill. Melt tbsp butter in deep cast iron skillet and sautee onion till soft. Add cabbage in batches till cooked down and soft. Add spices while cooking. Place cabbage in dish ontop of eggs and dill. Sautee mushrooms in 1 tbsp butter in same dish after cabbage to pick up tastes. Place mushrooms ontop of cabbage. Cover dish with a circle of pie crust (remaining 1/3). Flute edges & cut 3 dashes on top.

  2. Preheat oven to 400. Cook for 15 mins at 400. Decrease temperature to 350 degrees and continue to cook till crust turns brown (about 45 minutes).
