Recipe Ingredients for date squares

1 cups rolled oats
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
6 tbsp butter
6 tbsp apple sauce
3/4 lb dates, chopped
1 cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice

Recipe Directions for date squares

  1. combine rolled oats, sugar, flour, soda, salt and butter and apple sauce. Press half the crumb mixture into a greased 8 inch square baking pan

  2. In saucepan, over low heat, cook dates and water until thickened and smooth, about 10 minutes. Add lemon juice and mix well. Spread over crumb layer; sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over filling.

  3. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes or until lightly browned.
