Generic indian dahl recipe (from memory).

Recipe Ingredients for Dahl

4 cups Lentils (pre-soaked)
1 cup chick peas (canned)
283 g onions (chopped)
796 ml plum tomatoes (chopped)
2 tbsp olive oil
2 garlic cloves (chopped fine)
1/2 tsp ginger root (grated)
1 tsp cumin (ground)
1/2 tsp coriander (ground)
1/2 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
1 tsp turmeric
2 tsp salt
1 chili pepper (chopped fine)
3 cups water

Recipe Directions for Dahl

  1. In large saucepan, heat olive oil, onions and garlic.

  2. Add tomatoes and simmer and stir until pasty.

  3. Stir in ginger, chili, cumin, coriander salt and turmeric.

  4. Simmer and stir for 1 minute, then stir in lentils and chick peas.

  5. Add water, and bring to boil.

  6. Reduce heat and simmer until lentils are soft.

  7. Add fresh cilantro, and serve.
