This dish has a soup-like consistency, and it is best served in a bowl that has been pre-filled with 1/2 cup or more or cooked brown or white rice. It is not necessary to season this recipe with a lot of salt and pepper because it is already present in the beef broth and soy sauce. Lower the sodium in this recipe by using low-sodium products.

Recipe Ingredients for Dad's Chop Suey

1 pound beef stew meat, cut in 1" cubes
2 cups onion, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped
1 tablespoon canola oil
2 cups water
15 oz bean sprouts, drained and rinsed
14 oz beef broth
6 beef bouillon cubes
2 tablespoons soy sauce
4 oz. mushrooms
1 tablespoons sugar
2 T. cornstarch

Recipe Directions for Dad's Chop Suey

Brown stew meat with onion and celery. Add next 4 ingredients. Cook 1 hour. Add soy sauce, mushrooms and sugar. Thicken with cornstarch.
