This is a healthy, high fiber meal. It tastes great on top of rice.

Recipe Ingredients for Curried Split Peas (Dhal)

2 cup dried split peas
5 cups water
2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp salt
6 tbsp Canola Oil
2 large onion (thinly sliced)
2 tsp cumin seeds
2 tsp cloves
10 whole black peppercorns

Recipe Directions for Curried Split Peas (Dhal)

  1. Soak the peas 3-4 hours.

  2. Add peas, water, turmeric, pepper, and salt to a saucepan and bring to a boil; cover partially, reduce heat to simmer, and cook 20-30 minutes or until peas are soft and begin to disintegrate.

  3. Meanwhile, in a small fry pan, add the canola oil, onion and remaining spices and cook until onion is soft and golden, about 10 minutes. Add to peas and serve over rice.
