Recipe Ingredients for Curried Split Pea Soup

1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium white onion
3 cloves garlic
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp salt
8 cups water
1 pound dried split peas
1 carrot

Recipe Directions for Curried Split Pea Soup

  1. In a stockpot, saute the onions in the olive oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

  2. Add the garlic, ginger, spices, and salt.

  3. Saute for 2 more minutes.

  4. Add the water and stir well.

  5. Add the split peas.

  6. cover and bring to a boil.

  7. bring heat back down to medium; simmer for about an hour, until the peas are tender.

  8. Grate in the carrot and serve.

  9. you can garnish with fresh cilantro if you have it on hand.
