How can I curb late night hunger?

I seem to do really well through out the day but once the kids go to bed and I am sitting relaxing, I rummage through the cupboards and fridge to find something – anything - to eat. I just started watching my weight again after several failed attempts. I don't want to sabotage myself. And knowing myself, after a week or too, I seem to loose discipline and will power.  Do you have any suggestions for late night rummaging?


Don’t call it late night “hunger” unless you are truly hungry.  Learn to interpret your body’s hunger signals because they will keep you healthy. And so, let’s assume that “rummaging” is about relaxing and pampering yourself.  Can you  do it without food?  A bubble bath by aromatic candlelight… A fluffy bed with a trashy novel… The Guide to Stress at has more ideas.  But if food is your treat of choice, then save 150-200 calories for your late night treat.   Instead of rummaging, think about what you want to eat, place it on your special plate, sit down away from the distractions and enjoy!  Practice mindful eating to feel in control.
