Recipe Ingredients for Crunchy Nutty Apple Crumble

1 tbsp turbinado sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon (use mixed spice if u prefer, or substitute some of the cinnamon with nutmeg and clove)
1 tbsp cornstarch

Crumble topping:
50 g salted butter, softened
100 g all-purpose flour
45 g quick-cooking oats
15 g hazelnuts, finely chopped
30 g turbinado sugar

Recipe Directions for Crunchy Nutty Apple Crumble

  1. Grease an oven-dish with the 1 tsp butter.

  2. Mix the pieces of apple with the 1 tbsp sugar, cinnamon & the cornstarch. Spread out evenly into oven-dish.

  3. Preheat oven to 200C.

  4. Rub the butter into the all-purpose flour with your fingers till you get large 'breadcrumbs'. Mix in the oats, nuts and sugar, being careful not to break up the 'breadcrumbs' too much.

  5. Spread crumble topping over apples in oven-dish.Do not pack down, instead gently tap the dish down onto your working surface to allow the crumble topping to 'sink' down slightly.

  6. Bake for 30-45 min or until apples are cooked through and tender.

  7. Serve warm with custard, whipped cream, clotted cream, vanilla ice cream ....
