To prepare this dish a day ahead, cover and refridgerate after step 2. An hour befor serving, put the potatoes in the oven and heat them for 30 minutes at 325 and then another 30 minutes at 375. To prepare the day of, begin making potatoes about 1 1/2 hours before serving

Recipe Ingredients for Creamy Whipped Potatoes

5 lbs potatoes
8 ounce cream cheese, whipped with chives
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter
2 cups heavy cream, or whipping cream
1/4 cup almonds, sliced
1 dash paprika

Recipe Directions for Creamy Whipped Potatoes

  1. Peel potatoes; cut each into quarters. In 5-quart saucepot over high heat, heat potatoes, 1 teaspoon salt, and enough water to cover to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Drain well.

  2. Preheat oven to 375. In large bowl, combine potatoes, cream cheese, garlic salt, pepper, 4 tablespoons butter (1/2 stick), and 1 teaspoon salt. With potato masher, mash until smooth. Gradually add heavy cream, mixing well after each addition. Grease 13"X9" glass baking dish or casserole. Spoon potatoes into the dish.

  3. Dot potatoes with 2 tablespoons butter; sprinkle with sliced almonds and paprika.

  4. Bake for 30 minutes or until top is golden
