Basic Scalloped Potatoes that can be altered to your tastes - add cheese to sauce for Au Gratin Potatoes, add ham or crumbled bacon, top with Chevre for a smokey flavor... the list goes on.

Recipe Ingredients for Creamy Scalloped Potatoes

2 lbs. Idaho potatoes, about 5 med., thinly sliced
2 tbsp. butter, divided
1 onion, med, thinly sliced
2 tbsp. flour
1 c. heavy cream
1 c. milk
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 dash ground nutmeg

Recipe Directions for Creamy Scalloped Potatoes

  1. In a 2qt/med pot, melt 1 Tbsp. butter. Add flour; cook until slightly bubbly. Stir in onion and saute' until tender. Add cream and milk, then S&P and nutmeg. Cook over Med/Hi heat until bubbly and thickened. Remove from heat.

  2. Coat baking dish with 1 Tbsp. butter (trick: use a sandwhich baggy to spread butter, then discard = no messy hands!)

  3. Slice potatoes using a veggie slicer/mandolin. Place 1 layer potatoes on bottom of dish. Using a slotted spoon, spoon onions onto potatoes, repeat with remaining potatoes and onions. Pour sauce over potatoes.

  4. Bake in 400* oven for 1 hr.
