From Taste of Home's 30-minute Cookbook. I used 100% Whole Wheat Bread.

Recipe Ingredients for Creamy Cabbage

4 cups shredded cabbage
4 medium slices of bacon
1 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp paprika
1/8 tsp pepper
1 cup whole milk
2 slices whole wheat bread

Recipe Directions for Creamy Cabbage

  1. Dice the bacon, there should be 1/2 cup.

  2. Crumble the bread, so it makes 1 cup.

  3. Cook the cabbage in boiling water for 7 minutes. Drain and place in 1-qt casserole dish.

  4. In skillet, cook bacon until crispy. Drain reserving 1 tbsp of drippings in pan.

  5. Add flour, salt, paprika and pepper to drippings. Gradually add milk; cook and stir until thickened.

  6. Top cabbage with sauce.

  7. Sprinkle with bacon and bread crumbs.

  8. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes at 400.
