Perfect mix of brownies and cheesecake! This exact recipe makes the brownie batter a bit thick, but you can adjust it so the brownie is easier to spread.

Recipe Ingredients for Cream-cheese swirl brownies

1 cup crisco
1 cup flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup splenda
8 oz cane sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
8 oz cream cheese
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups egg beaters
5 oz chocolate
1/3 cup cocoa powder

Recipe Directions for Cream-cheese swirl brownies

  1. Heat oven to 350. Grease/Spray Pam on a 13X9X2 inch pan.

  2. For cheesecake: combine 1/3 cup shortening, cream cheese and vanilla in bowl. Mix with electric mixer until well combined. Beat in 1/2 cup sugar (use any sugar you like, I used Splenda to cut calories). Add 2 eggs (or 1/2 cup egg beaters), one at a time; beat well after each addition. Beat in 3 tablespoons flour. Set mixture aside for later.

  3. For brownie: melt the chocolate and 2/3 cup shortening in a large saucepan over low/medium heat. Remove from heat after melted. Stir in 2 cups of sugar with a wooden spoon. Stir in 4 eggs (= 1 cup egg beaters), one at a time, quickly into the mixture. Stir in vanilla.

  4. Sift together 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir gradually into chocolate mixture.

  5. Spread half the choc. mixture into prepared pan. Drop cheese mixture over chocolate and gently spread to cover. Drop remaining chocolate over cheese mixture. Swirl the mixtures together with a butter knife. Be careful to NOT OVERSWIRL. Simply running the knife through in a wide zig-zag ONCE will make a nice design.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Do not overbake the brownies for the sake of the cheesecake part! Cut into squares and enjoy!
