Basic unsweetened southern cornbread.

Recipe Ingredients for Cornbread

1 cup yellow cornmeal
1/3 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Recipe Directions for Cornbread

  1. Combine all dry ingredients and mix together (optional: add 1tsp sugar.) Beat egg and add to dry mixture, along with milk. Stir to combine. Add oil and beat until well incorporated.

  2. Bake in a prepared 9" round or square pan at 450 for 20 minutes, or until golden brown around edges.
