Cornbread For Chili Recipe

This is a basic cornbread recipe, kicked up a notch to serve with some spicy chili.

Recipe Ingredients for Cornbread for Chili

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp celery salt
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp dried thyme
1 cup 1% sour cream
1/2 cup 1% milk
3/4 cup frozen corn
2 tbsp margarine, melted
1 tbsp canned jalapenos, chopped
1 tsp chili powder

Recipe Directions for Cornbread for Chili

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Spray an 8x8" baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients, except chili powder.

  4. Add all remaining ingredients to dry ingredients and stir thoroughly. Add more milk if necessary if dough is too thick.

  5. Spread dough into prepared baking dish and smooth out.

  6. Sprinkle chili powder over top for decoration.

  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until dough is set and edges are lightly browned.

  8. Cool for 10 minutes, cut, and serve.
