Recipe Ingredients for Cookies, Old Fashioned Sugar (Orange) Cookies

1 cup butter, unsalted
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla, *See Directions below
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Recipe Directions for Cookies, Old Fashioned Sugar (Orange) Cookies

  1. *Can use any flavoring but Lorann Emulsion is the best.

  2. In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs and flavoring of choice.

  3. In a second bowl, combine and mix well the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir flour into butter mixture 1 cup at a time. Chill dough for 3 to 4 hours.

  4. Roll out and cut into shapes with a cookie cutter or a knife. Brush with milk and sprinkle with colored sugar. (I use a cookie dipper that makes 24 balls from this recipe).

  5. Bake on a sheet pan or a parchment lined sheet pan in a preheated 350 oven for 10 - 15 minutes depending on the size of the cookie, (using the dipper and not flattening needs 18 minutes cook time)

  6. Remove cookies to rack and cool completely, store in air tight container.
