My mom always made these growing up. I think they're really blondies.

Recipe Ingredients for Congo Bars

2 1/2 c brown sugar
1/3 c oil
1/3 c applesauce
1/4 tsp salt
3 eggs
3 tsp baking powder
2 3/4 c flour
1 tsp vanilla
12 oz semi sweet chocolate chips

Recipe Directions for Congo Bars

  1. cream sugar, applesauce, oil and salt til fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Add dry ingredients.

  2. Bake in 9 x 13 in pan at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Do not overbake.
