Easy and low-fat version of this southern classic.

Recipe Ingredients for Collard Greens

3 center cut bacon slices
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp. minced garlic
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
3 cups water
3 chicken bouillon cubes
1 pinch red pepper flakes
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 lb. collard greens, cut into 2-inch pieces

Recipe Directions for Collard Greens

  1. Cook bacon in large skillet over medium-high heat until crisp.

  2. Add onion and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add garlic and cook until just fragrant. Add collard greens and cook until they begin to wilt.

  4. Pour in water, and add bouillon, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 45 minutes, or until greens are tender.
